Overview

Human Rights Advisers are deployed at the request of United Nations Resident Coordinators on behalf of the United Nations Country Teams. Advisers support and assist the UNRCs and the teams to integrate human rights in their programming strategies and on its implementation as well as to build and strengthen national human rights capacities. Other functions include: advising and training to National Human Rights Institutions and other stakeholders; advising State actors on the promotion and protection of human rights norms and standards; building networks with, and providing practical support to, civil society actors; promoting engagement with the international human rights mechanisms; advocate so that recommendations of UN human rights mechanisms are integrated into UN programming; and when applicable, advising on integrating human rights in humanitarian response and post-crisis recovery processes.
