Institution Background

The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) is the implementing body for the Chemical Weapons Convention, which entered into force on 29 April 1997. The OPCW, with its 193 Member States, oversees the global endeavour to permanently and verifiably eliminate chemical weapons.  

The OPCW is headquartered in The Hague, The Netherlands and has approximately 500 staff members Organisation-wide.
 

Evaluation Function

The evaluation function of the OPCW is part of the internal oversight mechanism of the Organisation, managed by the Office of Internal Oversight (OIO). Our mission is to promote accountability through independent, credible and useful evaluations of OPCW programmes and activities. The Office adheres to the Evaluation Standards prescribed by the United Nations Evaluations Group (UNEG).
