The UNEG report on UN contributions to national evaluation capacity development (NECD) recommends that all UN agencies conduct their evaluations to foster NECD. But what does it mean in practice? Are there some concrete examples that we can learn from?
The UNEG NECD Working Group invited participants to join the session to hear more about and share their experiences of the opportunities and challenges in incorporating a capacity development perspective into the conduct of UN evaluations. Participants exchanged experiences on how to meaningfully engage government counterparts in evaluation and promote ownership by country stakeholders and support capacities in countries to demand, conduct and use evaluation.
The discussion at this EPE fed into ongoing work by the Working Group to identify and document good practices in conducting evaluations that support evaluation capacities and strengthening of national evaluation systems.
Note: The 2022/2023 EPE sessions were held virtually because of COVID. Normally, the EPE is an in person event (for UNEG members and invited guests only) and the sessions are not normally recorded.
