Bio
Clair Null is an applied economist with over 15 years of experience conducting rigorous, mixed-methods evaluations of government and philanthropic investments in programs ranging from nutrition; policy and institutional reform; water, sanitation, and hygiene; women's empowerment; private sector partnerships; and education. She has designed and led cluster-randomized trials, theory-based evaluations relying on primary qualitative data, and ex-post quasi-experimental studies using coarsened exact matching and synthetic control groups, among others. She has led evaluations in Africa (including Kenya, Nigeria, Mozambique, and Zambia) and Asia (including Pakistan and Indonesia). Prior to joining FAO's Office of Evaluation in 2024, she was a Principal Researcher at Mathematica, a Fellow at Harvard University's Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study and an Assistant Professor at Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health. Dr. Null has a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Resource Economics from the University of California, Berkeley.
