The Independent Office of Evaluation of IFAD (IOE), the Independent Evaluation Group (IEG) of the World Bank Group, and the International Development Evaluation Association (IDEAS) are pleased to announce the Evaluating Development Interventions for Transformational Change Award competition.

This biennial award will recognize outstanding evaluations of development interventions that promote or result in transformational change and are explicitly linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

2017 UNEG Evaluation Week

The 2017 Evaluation Week will take place in Vienna between 15th and 19th May, 2017. The event is organized with the support of the Vienna-based UNEG member organizations: Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

2016 UNEG Evaluation Week was successfully held from 25 to 29 April in Geneva, Switzerland, hosted by 11 Geneva-based UNEG members (WIPO, ILO, IOM, ITC, OHCHR, UNAIDS, UNCTAD, UNECE, UNHCR, WHO and WMO). Over 100 colleagues from 39 UNEG member and observer agencies, and additional partner organizations participated in the Evaluation Practice Exchange (EPE) seminars and the Annual General Meeting (AGM). Over 150 people including UNEG colleagues, UN system colleagues in Geneva, member states, academia and civil society representatives attended the High-level Event, "Evaluation Fit for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: no one left behind".

Evaluation fit for the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda: A commitment by evaluators

It is exciting to note that “evaluation” has been integrated in the new 2030 Agenda. UNEG, with support from our partners, played a critical role in advocating the importance of evaluation during the intergovernmental negotiations for this new Agenda. This is another important milestone for UNEG and the international evaluation community, following the stand-alone United Nations General Assembly Resolution, "Capacity building for the evaluation of development activities at the country level", which was adopted in December 2014 (click for more information).

Outcome Document of the United Nations Summit for the Adoption of the Post-2015 Development Agenda Calls for Strengthening National Evaluation Programs

The Outcome Document of the Summit for the Adoption of the Post-2015 Development Agenda is now available. It indicates that the follow-up and review processes of implementation of the post-2015 Development Agenda will be informed by country-led evaluations and data. It also calls for strengthening national evaluation programs.

Evaluating Environment in International Development, edited by Juha Uitto, was published in 2014 by Routledge. As stated by Nidhi Khattri (World Bank, Independent Evaluation Group): “The book is a must read for anyone concerned about development and its effects on environment.”
